Wreaths are one of those accessories with misty origins; weaving grasses and plant-life is a fundamentally early technology that was developed in many places around the world. Basically, if you want a flower crown, unless your larp takes place in a bubble, you can have one!
The olive wreath was not invented for the Olympic Games, as far as I know, but it is hard to pin down an earliest possible date for their use; the Olympics make a good “at least as early as” date, at 776 BCE. Golden versions were in use as well; another gorgeous example, dating to around 200 BCE.
